LONDON DESIGN PROJECTS by DUFOUR DESIGNS
Dufour Designs commissioned Interior design projects in and around London, Surrey and Middlesex. Chosen from our large portfolio of varied and eclectic interior design projects which have been carefully selected by Vincent Dufour to visually illustrate the various residential and commercial completed interior design projects in which Dufour Designs has been involved.
Vincent Dufour's personal recommendations to clients are accompanying some of Dufour Designs interiors to help you further understand and interpret the reasoning behind the proposals and completed decors.
Our garden design service combined with interior design projects is an extremely effective way of getting the general public to notice some companies and is a perfect addition to the companies' corporate image. Hotels, pubs, restaurants etc are perfect examples of commercial ventures where the outside appearance of the building is as important if not more important than the internal decor.
A grand and elegant hotel entrance hall in Surrey.
My first suggestion is to make a feature of the beautiful, grand entrance hall which is the first thing people will see when registering in the hotel and also their last impression of the building when going home.
Slightly stronger colour and a polished stone paint effect on the walls will inject a bit of life to this area, which is currently very neutral and un-welcoming.
A floral and sky mural painted around the top part of the hall will make an interesting addition and finish the walls nicely.
The columns painted with a marble paint effect combined with the stone effect on the walls will reflect the age and character of this period listed building.

A modern and definitively contemporary bathroom in Surbiton
The Client's Brief:
To achieve a completely different and contemporary new look for the spare shower room while experimenting with textures and new material. A complete contrast to the traditional, expected style of decoration and look of a Victorian town house. The clients requests are for unusual paint effect on the walls, better layout and space planning, no carpet, nice accessories and features, an efficient shower system and most importantly turning this small room into a light and inviting shower room for her many guests.
Following a site inspection by Dufour Designs, it became obvious that to achieve all of the clients requirements, the existing window would have to relocated and replaced. After explained to the client, the many benefits of repositioning and changing the window for a larger size, for more light, better space planning and much improved layout, the client authorised the proposed work. A structural change like moving a window can make such a difference to the final result and is so often overlooked in a bathroom redesign.
A sky light with electric opening mechanism was also added in the slanted ceiling for additional light and ventilation issues. A beautiful Italian wall mounted chrome unit and taps with complementary sandblasted coloured sink was positioned as a feature for people to see first of all when entering. An oval mirror with incorporated chrome halogen spotlight was fitted to complement the sink below.
Because of the new window position a larger angled shower cubicle with curved sliding doors was possible to include in our new layout proposal and makes such a nice additional feature in the room.
The toilet was also relocated behind the door in order not to be so visible from the landing as toilets are functional rather than decorative!
An industrial looking large towel/radiator with incorporated mirror was also incorporated in the overall modern scheme created for this shower room.
Decorative hands painted plain and decor tiles were selected for the inside of the shower and as a minimalist sink splash back. A co-ordinating plain cream colour scheme with chalky finish was chosen for the walls with certain parts of the walls highlighted in a darker but fading paint effect. A metallic perforated blind for the window and natural dark grey slate tiles on the floor and skirting nicely finishing off the scheme.
A cheerful retirement home in Putney
The ideas I am putting forward for ceiling light wells are quite drastic but necessary to dramatically change the uninviting feel you get when entering that part of the building.
I suggest ripping out the dark grey trellis currently used as decoration in the ceiling wells and turning the wells into features.
Sunny floral murals painted on the ceiling wells will brighten the corridors and will look so much more welcoming to visitors.
My ideas for the murals were inspired by the beautiful internal Courtyard with its white pegoda, the patio area and landscaped gardens at the rear of the extension.
A bathroom exclusively for the kids in Coombes
A very smart nursing home in Kingston-upon-Thames
My recommendation is to make a feature of the Lower corridor by panelling the top part of the walls using an Aubusson Wallpaper in a classic 18th century design.
The panel beading will stand out from the rest of the walls by being painted in a rusty red with the walls below and around the wallpaper will be painted in a strong yellowy cream.
The new decorating scheme will look very warm and welcoming and will create a lovely surrounding for the residents when seating near the nursing station.
The opposite walls will be in a two tone painted effect with a dividing dado rail in co-ordinating colours to the wallpaper. I am proposing to use a classic green colour for the bottom part of the walls, skirting boards, doorframes and radiator covers.
The top part of the walls will be painted in yellow to create a colour link from the wallpapered walls to the painted one. A sand colour will be used as a contrast to highlight the dado rails and doors.
A hand made shaker kitchen in Richmond-upon-Thames
A stress free office in Teddington Middlesex
The combination of cream tones carpet, slightly muted and subtle green/blue for this colour scheme always look fresh, clean and relaxing especially when paired with the blond tone of the natural wood selected for the custom office furniture.
The commissioned wall folding bed incorporated in this office design and layout is an easy and possible way for this client to lay down for a few minutes and relax before going back to his very pressured job.
