The leadership burden
However confident you may be as the leader of your organisation there are times when you wish thatanother mature and experienced business person was available to provide that vital second opinion –including alternative ideas. Perhaps just someone to “bounce ideas off”.

The position of the managing director, proprietor or owner of a small or medium sized enterprise (SME),frequently with no immediate peers, can be very lonely. While the MD of a large company has a professionalboard of directors, each being a proven expert in his own field, available for consultation, the MD of anSME has no such luxury.



Nor is the prospect of a permanent addition to the staff an easy option with the high costs and overheads usually incurred for such a position.

So what is the realistic and affordable option?

BUSINESS SUPPORT SCHEME
The Business Support Scheme is a unique process set up specifically by the Institute for Independent Business to help the independent business MD.The Scheme operates under the aegis of the IIB who will assign an Associate as the scheme coordinator for a specific company.



Under the Scheme: -

• The Associate is available at all reasonable times to talk through current issues.
• The Associate, by drawing on the resources of the IIB, will arrange the answer to any business query raised.
• The Associate will sit in on the company’s monthly management meeting to ensure that the company is adequately supported by the IIB
• The Associate will plan and coordinate with the MD the use of the company’s agreed hours of hands-on practical assistance both from himself and other IIB Associates.
